چکیده
Autonomic dysreflexia is a clinical emergency syndrome of uncontrolled sympathetic output that can occur in patients who have a history of spinal cord injury. Despite its frequency in spinal cord injury patients, central nervous system complications are very rare. We report a man with traumatic high level incomplete spinal cord injury who suffered hypertensive right thalamic hemorrhage secondary to an episode of autonomic dysreflexia. Prompt recognition and removal of the triggering factor, the suprapubic catheter obstruction which led to hypertensive attack, the patient had a favorable functional outcome after the resorption of the hematoma and effective rehabilitation programme.

Hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage due to autonomic dysreflexia in a young man with cervical cord injury.
The author reports the case of a 36 year old man with cervical cord injury in whom autonomic dysreflexia developed into intracerebral hemorrhage during inpatient rehabilitation. This patient showed complete quadriplegia (motor below C6 and sensory below C7) due to fracture of the 6th cervical vertebra. An indwelling urethral catheter had been inserted into the bladder for 3 months, diminishing ...

Background & Importance: Acute autonomic system impairment can be dangerous and life-threatening, and a clinician should be aware of its occurrence possibility. According to the anatomy of this system, spinal cord lesions could disturb its function. There are many reports of autonomic dysreflexia in spinal cord i njuries especially spinal cord trauma. Case Presentation: A 28 year-o...
متن کاملFatal cerebral hemorrhage in a tetraplegic patient due to autonomic dysreflexia triggered by delay in emptying urinary bladder after unsuccessful intermittent catheterization by carer: lessons learned
Introduction Over-distension of urinary bladder in a high spinal cord injury patient is a triggering factor for autonomic dysreflexia. Removing triggering factors is vital to prevent autonomic dysreflexia. Case presentation A 36-year-old tetraplegic patient, who was managed by intermittent catheterizations performed by caregivers, developed recurrent autonomic dysreflexia during a week due to...

ABSTRACT: Autonomic dysreflexia is a syndrome describing sympathetic overactivity occuring in patients with spinal cord lesions. This study is based on the determination of epidemiology , predisposing factors and relation of this syndrome to severity and level of the spinal cord lesion. Fifty spinal cord injured patients were studied retrospectively in Gilan province,in Center of Spinal Cord ...

The aim of this paper is to give an overview of acute complications of spinal cord injury (SCI). Along with motor and sensory deficits, instabilities of the cardiovascular, thermoregulatory and broncho-pulmonary system are common after a SCI. Disturbances of the urinary and gastrointestinal systems are typical as well as sexual dysfunction. Frequent complications of cervical and high thoracic S...
